I drew Rick Moranis with the restriction that he would be made up of rectangles, while still resembling Rick Moranis. As a reference I used a photo on Flickr.
After I scanned the pencil sketch, I cut out the background and replaced it with a light gray color, and blurred the edges into the background with a selective blur tool.
As my preparation I drew four portraits in a more realistic style, which varied considerable in quality. However, I needed those in order to draw this portrait.
